This Sunday – Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost
This Sunday I am going to be focusing on the reading from the prophet Jeremiah. Usually with Jeremiah, he has a message to remind the people of “house of Judah” and the “house of Israel” how bad they have been, particularly with regard to their relationship with God. In the passage for this Sunday, there is a message of hope. “The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah.” “I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts.” Jeremiah goes on to say that it will not be necessary for one to teach another about God, because everyone will know God from the least of them to the greatest. Unfortunately, we do not appear to have got to that point yet. Even with the coming of Jesus, we do not seem to have grasped that intimate awareness of God that Jeremiah describes. We are still working on it.
The readings for Sunday are Jeremiah 31: 27-34 and Luke 18:1-8. The title of the Sermon is “Written on your heart.”
At this service we will be welcoming four young ones into the family of God through the Sacrament of Baptism.
MEN’S BREAKFAST – This Saturday, October 19
This Saturday, at 8:00 am there will be a nice big breakfast of pancakes, sausages, eggs, coffee, tea, or juice, and a few extras to help fill up any man who wants to be there. We don't usually ask you to work for your breakfast so you probably won't wear off breakfast too soon. We do usually ask you to give us $10.00 for the meal. Any surplus funds go towards helping with minor repairs and maintenance around the church. Breakfast is down stairs, just follow the aroma. Hope you are hungry Saturday morning.

OUTREACH ACTIVITIES
• Seasonal items are now being collected for the Jasper Place Wellness Center and the Bissell Center – underwear, socks, scarves, mitts, refillable water bottles, hand warmers, etc. These can be left at the “giving tree” (in the sanctuary by the lounge windows) for distribution.
• Bissell Festive Wishlist – Pick up a Bissell Festive Wishlist from the back table, fill a stocking with items from the list or purchase a gift for a child; bring them to church on Dec 15. They will then be delivered to Bissell.
COMMUNION SERVERS
At Spirit West we celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion, (or the Lord’s Supper, or the Eucharist) once a month, normally on the first Sunday. Serving communion involves the minister and at least three people from the congregation who assist. We are seeking out those who would like to be Communion Servers. This is not a perpetual commitment. Glenna W. has made up a schedule for the next twelve months (i.e twelve services). You will find it with the other sign-up sheets by the office. You can pick which date(s) you would like to be part of serving team. If you have any questions about the role of a Communion Server, speak to Larry or Glenna.
