Our Minister, Stuart Jackson

The United Church of Canada has always been an important part of my life. I was born while my parents were serving as United Church lay missionaries in India, and came with them to Calgary just before I turned four. After completing Grade 12 in Calgary, I pursued my Bachelor of Science degree with hopes of doing something in biology or environmental science. At the University of Waterloo, I met, and later married, Kathy, who still insists she had no idea where our future lay; after all, she married an underemployed biologist.
We moved to Edmonton, and attended Trinity United Church while starting our family. Following the decision to answer my call to ordained ministry, we pulled up stakes and headed back to Ontario, so I could begin studies at Emmanuel College. Five years later, I was ordained by Hamilton Conference on behalf of Alberta and Northwest Conference. The fact that the service was held in the same gym where, ten years earlier to the day, I had received my B.Sc., is a reminder that God continues to work in marvellous and mysterious ways!
Ordination brought me to Alberta, where I served at Alix-Delburne, Ponoka, and Chalmers-Castle Downs United Church in Edmonton. During that time, Kathy found employment as an Administrator with Alberta and Northwest Conference, and now with the Northern Spirit Regional Council.
While I officially retired in 2015, I have served as part-time retired supply at Kirk United Church, St. David’s United Church in Leduc, and now Spirit West United.
We have three adult children and two in-laws, who live in Lacombe, Calgary and Lethbridge, and two grandsons in Lacombe.
