We Help in the Community . . .

We reach out to people in our community in a number of ways throughout the year.
Inner City Pastoral Ministry We work with Inner City Pastoral Ministry  to serve a Sunday lunch for 300+ inner-city folks at Bissell Center (Yearly)

Jasper Place Wellness Center January/February/March we help the homeless and needy at the Jasper Place Wellness Center. On Saturday nights we help cook and serve soup and buns to anyone who wants to drop in. This is a west-end interfaith project that we all enjoy. December 2020 COVID-19 update - during the pandemic, we have been asked to provide commercially packaged foods (granola bars, bags of chips, fruit cups, etc.), soup mixes and peeled fruit.   It is suggested that we make 25 bagged lunches for each date.

Bissell Center We support the Bissell Center with one of our Sunday offerings. We also make sandwiches for them at least twice a year. The whole congregation gets together after church in pairs to help make up these sandwiches. We also gather clothing and essentials for the Center if they indicate a need.  Christmas 2020 - Usually at this time of the year, we are  collecting toys and putting together stockings for the Bissell Centre.    This year due to Covid Bissell will not be having their annual Christmas Party.   They are still in need of warm accessories like mitts, hats, hand warmers, scarves, winter underwear, socks, etc.   However, with the increasing Covid numbers and the new restrictions it doesn’t feel right asking anyone  to drop things off at the church let alone go out and shop. So, we encourage those of you who wish to give something this Christmas - please do so in a monetary way directly or online with one of the many organizations out there.  There is so much need I don’t think you can choose wrong. God Bless and Merry Christmas

Other Activities We participated in the Glastonbury Community League Movie in the Park Night on May 26, 2018. We sold hot dogs with the proceeds going to the community league.  We have participated in the Tools for Schools - Stuff a Backpack United Way project.

Finally, we support the greater programs of the United Church on the national level through the Mission and Service funds given in our Sunday offerings.

If you have new ideas, please share them with us. Reaching out is important. It keeps us connected and strong and enriches us all.
