Sunday, October 26th – 22nd Sunday after Pentecost
This Sunday, we will be led in worship by Merlin Rosser. His reflection is titled “Love your Neighbour”. The time with children is called “God loves Us”.
The scripture readings are:

1 Thessalonians 2: 1-8
Matthew 22: 34-46

LADIES GROUP CRAFT EVENT, 1-3pm, Oct 30 - The craft event is being held in the afternoon this year, in the sanctuary. The cost of the craft (which is very easy to do!) hasn’t been finalized yet but should not be more than $5.00 and is paid at the event.

CHOIR CHRISTMAS CONCERT - The Spirit West UC Choir is excited to say they are preparing for a Christmas Concert to be held on FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2023 AT 7:00. This is our first Christmas Concert since COVID! Entitled “MORNING STAR”, this production is a story of hope, in word and music, to remind us of the Light of the World, Jesus Christ. We hope to see YOU there!

Prayer is important. We know that people face challenges and difficulties and we cannot forget them. Our Prayer Chain continues to be active. If you have a prayer request, please send it to spiritwest.prayerchain@gmail.com. These requests will be shared regularly with the prayer chain and may form part of the Prayers of the People in our Sunday Worship. Please remember to have people removed from the prayer chain if the prayers are no longer needed.

YOUR BOTTLES FOR THE CHURCH
You may have bottles piling up for recycling. You can bring them to the church (or you can call for pick up). If you want to bring your bottles (and any other recyclable beverage containers) in during our office hours and put them directly in the Bottle Shed (by the garage), give us a call, and we can have the shed open for you. All money raised from the return of bottles goes towards paying down the principal and interest on our mortgage.

PAR - Pre-Authorized Remittance is a direct debit program run by the United Church of Canada. It allows people to support their church through an automatic monthly withdrawal from their bank account. It follows the giver's wishes (give to local, M&S, etc.). If you wish to go on PAR, please the fill out the form on the literature carousel and give the form and a cheque marked “void” to the church office. We will do the rest! If you wish to change your PAR amount, contact the office and we will make the change for you.
We can accept donations by eTransfer. The contact name for the eTransfer is Spirit West United Church, and the email address is spiritw@telus.net . If you include a security question with your eTransfer, please notify Norma at the church office by phone or email of the answer.
And remember that if you are not on PAR(Pre-Authorized Remittance) or even if you are , you can mail in cheques to the church office (Spirit West United Church, 7003 – 199 St. NW Edmonton, AB T5T 3A8, include your envelope number if you have one.)
You can drop off your offering/donation in the offering plate just inside the front doors or place it in the mailbox.

Change of office hours – for the remainder of October, all of November and December, I will be working Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from noon to 5pm and taking Thursday off. The eMessage will come out on Friday afternoon.

Sunday, October 22nd – 21st Sunday after Pentecost
This Sunday, we will be led in worship by Colleen Fox and members of the Worship Committee. Rev. Shannon McCarthy will give the reflection titled “You’re the message”. Rev. McCarthy is the Executive Director of the Northern Spirit Region.
The time with children is called “Stone Soup” and the children will be making the soup during Sunday School.

MEN’S BREAKFAST, 8:30 AM. Sat, Oct 21 - Gather with other men of the congregation for fellowship and breakfast. Our breakfast this month will be at River Cree Casino. It will be at the Tap 25 Sports bar. 8:30am, same time as usual.

Sunday, October 15th – 20th Sunday after Pentecost
This Sunday, we will be led in worship by Rev. Scott Brown. The time with children, he will ask “which do you pick first?” The sermon is called “Sour Grapes”.

Reserving time and space at church - The church sanctuary and lounge are getting busier and it would be a good idea to let Norma know if anyone or any church groups would like to use or rent the sanctuary and/or lounge and the dates and times. Sunday, October 8th – Thanksgiving Sunday
This Sunday, we will be led in worship by Cathy and Dave Sutherland who have been members of the Spirit West congregation for many years. They are calling their Reflection “Remember to give Thanks”, In the time with children, they will talk about Giving Thanks.
The scripture readings are:

Deuteronomy 8:7-18
Luke 17:11-19

APPLE PIES - We will be selling the apple pies and apple crisps, made from our own apples from 4 – 7 on Friday Oct 6 at the church. They will be $10 each. If we have any left, we will be selling them on Saturday as well, noon – 2 pm.
