Things are quieting down now for the summer, but please take note of the request in the announcement about Canada 150 Sunday.
This Sunday’s Gospel reading contains the reference to God’s care for even the small sparrow. It is the basis for the old children’s hymn “God sees the little sparrow fall.” The whole passage is meant as a message of encouragement to the disciples as they are about to embark on their own. Jesus acknowledges that there will be challenges and even danger in what the disciples are about to do, but that God is with them. They are really not on their own. So this Sunday, we will be looking at what it means to be a disciple in our day. What are the dangers and pitfalls that confront us as modern disciples, and can we hear Jesus’ words of encouragement.
The Scripture readings are Psalm 86:1-10, 16-17 (as found at 803 in Voices United) and Matthew 10:24-39 During the Time for All Ages, I will be talking about God seeing the little sparrow, “God sees the little sparrow.” The title of the sermon is “Discipleship.”
CANADA 150 SUNDAY
During the Service on Sunday, July 2 we will mark the 150th Anniversary of Confederation. Unfortunately, there is no hospitality team available to provide refreshments after Church on that Sunday. If you are not on a hospitality team, but would like to help out on this one Sunday, please call Norma at the Church office. (by the way, I think we need a cake!)
There is now a Spirit West Prayer Circle. We gather at the church on Thursday mornings at 10:30. We share a reading, share our stories or concerns, and pray. There is no “sign-up” for this, just come as you feel the need. If you are interested, join us on Thursdays.
CHALLENGES TO MOBILITY?
Spirit West has a Walker (Evolution Xpresso Lite) that is available for use at the church. The walker can also be borrowed by those whose mobility is temporarily challenged. For more information about the Walker, please contact the Church office (780-481-1406).
