Please note below some of the special things that are happening at Spirit West as we move into Lent. Note in particular that this Sunday is Celtic Sunday and also note Messy Easter and the inquiry about the formation of a Prayer Circle at Spirit West.
This Sunday – March 12th
The readings for Sunday, point to journeys. In the reading from Genesis, Abram is called by God to become a blessing, and we know that this call will result in Abram (renamed Abraham) going on an epic journey to a new land. In the Gospel we have Nicodemus, who while not going on a physical journey, is making a spiritual journey, coming to a new understanding of God. The Christian faith is not a destination, it’s a journey. Sometimes a physical journey, perhaps a pilgrimage. Sometimes internal, a journey of the soul. Sometimes our journeys are of faith, as we come to a new awareness of our place in the world. Sometimes our journeys are in faith, we sense a call to something new, and move forward not really knowing where we are going.
This Sunday is also Spirit West’s Celtic Sunday. The prayers and especially the music for the service are derived from the Celtic tradition. In addition to Glenn and the Spirit West Choir, we will also experience music from guest musicians. Members of HarpBeat, Bonnie C’s harp choir will be adding to our worship as will the Nova Bells Handbell Choir. Come out an experience this service, and if you would like to wear or accessorize with green, feel free to do so.
The Readings for Sunday are Genesis 12: 1-4a and John 3: 1-17. In the Time for All Ages I will be looking back at St. Patrick’s story “The Shamrock.” I have called my sermon, “Journey of Faith”
PANCAKE LUNCH – Thank you!
Don D. and the Spirit West Men’s Breakfast Group would like to say thank you to all of you who helped with preparation or clean-up at the Pancake Lunch last Sunday. And we would also like to thank those who were able to stay and enjoy the fellowship and food. For your information We cooked slightly less than 1 1/2 big Costco bags of pancakes and 175 sausages ( we had 25 left over ).
GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER
Join us in using cunning stealth and covert organization to surprise our phenomenal Spirit West chefs. This fund-raiser for the church will take place during the months of March, April and May. Check the display board at the back of the church, if you see a dinner opportunity that strikes your fancy, talk to Bill C. to make your reservation. (unless the reservation is for the dinner at Bill and Carol’s, then talk to Coleen F.) Bon Appetit!
MESSY CHURCH IS COMING BACK!
Messy Church is coming back to Spirit West. We are going to have a Messy Easter on Saturday, April 8, 4-6 pm. We have already got some fun crafts in the works. If you are interested in helping please contact Edina or Larry.
PRAYER CIRCLE
As you know, Spirit West has a Prayer Chain, a group of people who commit to praying for the needs of the community through the week. I have also had an inquiry about starting a Prayer Circle. This would be a weekday gathering at the church of people who would like to support one another and the church in prayer. A proposal is to meet on Thursday mornings at 10:30, we would gather, perhaps share a reading, share our stories, and pray. If you are interested, please email (Larry) spiritwest.minister@telus.net or call the church.
CHALLENGES TO MOBILITY?
Spirit West has a Walker (Evolution Xpresso Lite) that is available for use at the church. The walker can also be borrowed by those whose mobility is temporarily challenged. For more information about the Walker, please contact the Church office (780-481-1406).
RIDE TO CHURCH?
From time to time we encounter people who would like to come to church at Spirit West, but are unable to because they do not have means of transportation. Can you give a ride? If you would be willing to make yourself available to provide a ride to church please call the church office. Do you need a ride? Would you like to come to church at Spirit West, but are unable to because you have no ride, please call the church office. (780-481-1406)
Spirit West Prayer Chain
The Spirit West Prayer Chain is a group of people who have committed to continue our prayers of concern from Sunday through the week. To be part of this ministry, email your request to spiritwest.prayerchain@gmail.com . You may also email a request for prayer to the same email address. If you would prefer to talk to someone, you can call the church or call Edina T. at 780-481-3508
