We are having a goodbye gathering for Larry and his family this Sunday with a BBQ and cake after church. This is an opportunity for everyone to say goodbye and celebrate the time Larry had with us. The BBQ will be held outside (weather permitting) on the front lawn / parking lot. Please bring a lawn chair if you can. We hope to see you for the special time!
Sunday, September 18, 2022 – the Third Sunday in the Season of Creation - STORM
Have you booked an appointment for your snow tires yet? It’s getting to be that time of year when we get ready for the storms. There are storms that we are used to, and we know how to get ready for them. Even when a big storm comes through that shuts things down for a day or two, and we are ready to hunker down with extra blankets, warm drinks and well charged iPads.
Jesus asks his disciples during the storm “Where is your faith”. I take this not as an accusation, but a wondering question. In a normal storm, the type we know how to prepare for, our faith is in the walls of our home that they will keep the wind off our faces. Our faith is in weather reporters who will tell us how bad it will be.
What happens when the storm is bigger than we prepared for?
Have you faced a storm you weren’t able to prepare for?
For many of us, Covid has been such a storm. Everything has changed in two and a half years.
With wonder and curiosity I ask “Where is your faith?” How can we rebuilt trust and community?
The gospel lesson is “Jesus Calms the Storm” from Luke 8:22-25 https://youtu.be/XUQaVQC1QYk
With the kids we will be making a storm together.
I will be on the church porch Saturday 10-2 weather permitting, or I’ll be waiting to meet you in the warmth of the building.
If you would like to meet with me at another time, I’m available 9-9, Wednesday-Sunday by appointment.

SPIRIT WEST PRAYER CHAIN
Prayer is important. We know that people face challenges and difficulties and we cannot forget them. Our Prayer Chain continues to be active. If you have a prayer request, please send it to spiritwest.prayerchain@gmail.com. These requests will be shared regularly with the prayer chain and may form part of the Prayers of the People in our Sunday Worship.
Please remember to have people removed from the prayer chain if the prayers are no longer needed.
YOUR BOTTLES FOR THE CHURCH
You may have bottles piling up for recycling. You can bring them to the church (or you can call for pick up). If you want to bring your bottles (and any other recyclable beverage containers) in during our office hours and put them directly in the Bottle Shed (by the garage), give us a call, and we can have the shed open for you. All money raised from the return of bottles goes towards paying down the principal and interest on our mortgage.
